PUNE: The self-information form' required to be filled by passport applicants for verification is now available on the city 's website.
Applicants called for in-person verification at station will have to download the form, fill in the details and carry it to the station with necessary documents when called.
Police are sending intimations to applicants through SMSs about the need to fill the forms before coming to stations. The SMS sent to the applicant informs him/her not just about the form, but also gives phone number of the constable who can be contacted for queries.
The online availability of forms is not only helping cut time taken for verification of passport applicants, but also saving them a round to the station.
According to senior officials in-charge of verification for passports at the Foreigners Registration Office (FRO), applicants awaiting a call from the station for verification can simply take a print out, fill in the details and keep the form ready as and when they get a call from the station.
Sanjay Patil, deputy commissioner of (FRO), expressed satisfaction about the improvement in the verification process.
"At times, applicants have to return empty-handed from the station after they are told that the form needs to be mandatorily filled first for the verification. We have thus made the forms available online," Patil said.
