Andhra Pradesh director general of police JV Ramudu today said that online passport police verification service (PPVS) will be introduced all over the state by May 30.

After inaugurating `Early Response and Command Centre' (Vehicle Tracking System, PPVS and Jail Releasing Monitor System) at the police commissionerate in Visakhapatnam today, Mr Ramudu said the time needed for police verification of passport applications was expected to come down to three to four days from the current 21 days with the introduction of new system.

With the online jail release monitoring system, the police would be able to find out if the applicant has been involved in criminal cases very quickly, he said.

Police commissioner Amit Garg said passport application received from the passport office would be forwarded every day to the field-level verification officer (head constable of special branch). The official will contact and meet the applicant, verify his/her credentials and send a verification report online to Passport Verification Cell, which would forward it to the passport office.

Applicants will get text messages and and e-mails about the status of police verification, he added.

If the applicant receives an SMS saying that his/her application has been rejected, he or she can go for a re-verification by approaching the grievance cell at Passport Verification Cell.
