Aundh: Pune Mayor Dattatraya Dhankawade inaugurated a 60-day long special passport camp on May 1 at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Sabhagruha in Aundh.
The camp aims at decreasing the appointment cycle for normal category passports by half. The camp will process about 125-600 applications every day till June 30.
Others present at the inauguration ceremony included Rajendra Jagtap, Additional Municipal Commissioner of PMC, Sanjay Patil, DCP, Special Branch and Foreigners Registration Office, MM Doiphode, Deputy Passport Officer and local corporator Sangeeta Gaikwad.
Regional Passport Officer of Pune Atul Gotsurve explained how important it was to arrange these passport camps for citizens of Pune and the other five districts the Pune passport office caters to i.e. Sangli, Satara, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur and Solapur.
Gotsurve said, “This camp will help to reduce the waiting time for normal appointments from the present 40 days to 20-25 days. It will be beneficial to applicants and help them get their passports early.”

To begin with a total of 125 normal appointments for each day will be released till 15 May 2015. Later on, the number of appointments per day will be enhanced in a step bey step manner to 600 per day.
ONLINE APPOINTMENT IS COMPULSORY TO ATTEND THE CAMP.
Please note that Wlak-in categories, ON HOLD and TATKAL Application will not be entertained at the Passport Camp.
Speaking at the inauguration, Jagtap said, “The economic well-being of people, low airfares, education and other such reasons have led to a rise in demand for passport services like never before.” He also appreciated the efforts of the Pune regional passport office to bridge the demand-supply gap.
Meanwhile, DCP Sanjay Patil explained the procedure to be adopted when a person loses his or her passport in a foreign country.
